Amy Evert

Our Founder

At Althea Health & Fitness, we believe in the power of transformation. Our founder, Amy Evert, has a remarkable story of resilience and strength. Diagnosed with Tumor Onset Epilepsy in 2012, Amy faced numerous challenges, including frequent seizures, depression, and significant life changes as a single mother. Despite these hurdles, she decided to take charge of her health and well-being, turning her struggles into a journey of empowerment.

Lyle Gammon

Personal Trainer - Group Fitness Instructor - Nutrition Coach

I played athletics all my life. A couple of sports I played at a high level. Training, and practicing were a part of my daily life. Body weight was never a concern for me. And proper nutrition never a concern. I ate horribly.

But then I had to grow up. Get a real job and start paying bills. My training decreased, but I still surfed, played golf, and played adult league hockey for fun. But my diet didn't change.

My body weight started to go up. Basically, I got fat. I went from 180lbs to 210lbs in a matter of months. Doesn't seem like much but it was. It became harder for me to do the things I enjoyed. My balance was off, I didn't have control of my body while playing golf and surfing. So, I read a few nutrition books and put those practices into place. The weight came off, and I started to feel better about myself. Unfortunately, it didn't last long. Life happened, and I started to eat the same crap again, the weight came back.

I have repeated that cycle over and over again so many times, I have lost count. Looking back on my health journey, I am comfortable saying that I am a food addict. I struggle with food that I know isn't healthy for me. I will always struggle for the rest of my life.

Somehow admitting that struggle has allowed me to take ownership of my food and my weight. I have decided to put myself first and work every day to regain control and lose the unhealthy weight. It has been very difficult and I still make mistakes. I am not perfect and that's ok. What is not ok, is ever giving up. When I make mistakes, I think about the reasons I made the poor choice. The answer is usually laziness. The excuses are many and inaccurate. My secret is to immediately focus on my next meal and make a better choice. I think it is important that everyone knows that when I hear our clients talk about their struggle and their health journey, when I say, "I understand" I truly mean it. My journey will never end. I will never be in "maintenance." I will always have to battle every day. I am worth it and I will succeed and learn more about myself from my failures.

Heather Shaffer

Yoga Instructor

Hi, I'm Heather. I began practicing yoga over ten years ago to find more rest and grounding amidst a frenetic lifestyle. The more I practiced, the more I found stress ease and mindfulness grow. I also found a community of people interested in connecting more intentionally with themselves and the world around them. In 2021, I completed a 200-hour teacher training program to deepen my understanding of yoga. I continue to practice yoga regularly and teach pop-up classes near my home in central KY.

My experience is that yoga serves me in different ways for different life seasons. For me today, yoga often means space. Space to practice being present. Space to be reminded I am enough. And that, to feel strong one day and struggle the next is to be human. Whether this is your first yoga class or your thousandth, I hope we can share space for whatever season you find yourself in and whatever purpose you need yoga to serve.

My name is April Helton, I am a wife to my husband Eric, and mom to 6 kids. I have been working on my health and wellness for several years successfully losing 100lbs. I am always working towards improving my health and being the best version of myself that I can. I want to be a healthy role model for my kids, and live a long happy life. I joined Amy Evert Fitness 2 years ago, and in that time I have committed to my health and wellness journey even deeper. Maintaining my weight loss is something that I have to work at every day. The skills I have learned have helped me become stronger both mentally and physically. I have enjoyed this journey so much that I decided to get my Group Fitness Instructor certification. I want to empower and coach other people like me who strive to become stronger and healthier. I believe in meeting you where you are, and I take pride in supporting you on your journey.
